The rise in online offers massive opportunities for media sales people

Now is a great time to be getting into the media and advertising industry. Everyone’s reading, viewing, clicking, watching and commenting on something online. In the UK, 71% of us have access to the internet from home, we’ve watched 5.5 billion videos online in February this year, 26 million of us are registered on Facebook, and 60% of us accessed the internet at least once a day in 2010.

Construction Interview Tips

If you want a construction sales job, attitude and preparation is everything! The construction market has no doubt been hit hard by the recession. The number of people on the market rose sharply as businesses went into administration and were forced to make redundancies. This meant lots of candidates, all applying for only a handful of jobs. Companies that were still recruiting had their pick of the crop meaning they were only going to recruit people that fitted their exact requirements.

A mixed picture for the construction market

‘How is the market at the moment’? It’s one of the most frequently asked questions, yet also one of the most difficult to answer. We’ve all experienced a rough ride in the past 2 years. The housing market all but collapsed, the cost of energy and raw materials rose and many large commercial projects were moth balled. This inevitably led to many businesses closing their doors. According to a report published by Deloitte, the number of construction companies going into administration in January 2009 was up 73% compared to 2007.

I recently had a senior marketer from a big mobile phone operator come to the office. He was a friendly chap who was at the top of his game, having delivered every kind of marketing campaign under the sun, and successfully too.

This was an ideal opportunity to get a little insight into the mind of a senior level marketer in a hugely successful company, so I asked him what one thing had helped him the most in his career – his answer was getting good at PowerPoint!

Recruiting your first marketer? You’re not alone!

This morning I took yet another spec for a marketing manager job, this time for a small IT consultancy. They have a team of 3 sales people that generate a good amount of business but the MD feels there is more opportunity in the market place, so they’re now looking for their first marketer…and they are not alone!

Over the last year, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of SME’s looking into marketing recruitment for the first time. The reasons cited for the vacancies tend to centre on a need to keep control of costs and generate more quality leads, and ultimately make the sales team more efficient and a productive unit.
